UNICROSS Suspends 2 Students for Shooting Staff Member on Campus

The University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has indefinitely suspended two students, Charles Mbinghi-Ogar (Department of Urban and Regional Planning) and Emmanuel Ogochukwu Obi (Physics Department), for allegedly shooting a staff member, Eyong Inah, during a violent altercation on campus on Wednesday, April 3, 2025.

According to a university circular, Mbinghi-Ogar opened fire during the confrontation, with a pellet hitting a passing postgraduate student, who was hospitalised.

The incident triggered panic, disrupted exams, and forced an evacuation of students and staff.

The suspended students, who fled the scene with accomplices, violated multiple campus regulations, according to the university, including unauthorised weapon possession, endangerment of lives, and disruption of academic activities.

UNICROSS Registrar Victor Ephraim confirmed their indefinite suspension, banning them from campus or university activities pending a police investigation.

The University said the case has been referred to the Nigeria Police Force for prosecution, warning that non-compliance could lead to expulsion or criminal charges.
