Cross River APC Names Governor Otu as Sole Candidate for 2027 Gubernatorial Race

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River has adopted Governor Bassey Otu and Deputy Governor Peter Odey as its sole candidates for the 2027 gubernatorial race.

The announcement, made on Monday at the party’s secretariat in Calabar, the APC emphasized on continuity of the good works of the governor.

State Chairman Alphonsus Eba affirmed the decision during a meeting of the party’s State Working and Executive Committees, stating, “Governor Otu remains our uncontested choice. The principle of continuity guides us—why alter a successful leadership?” He clarified that no other aspirants have been granted automatic tickets, urging prospective candidates for other positions to begin grassroots consultations.

Eba emphasized the party’s resolve to retain Otu even if he hesitates, recalling a similar strategy during the 2022 primaries. “The ticket bears his name regardless. We urge him to heed the party’s overwhelming support,” he added.

The chairman also commended Deputy Governor Odey, currently acting as governor, for aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s interventions in Rivers State. He dismissed claims of South-South governors’ collective opposition to Tinubu’s policies, praising Odey for clarifying that Cross River was not consulted on the matter. Eba lauded the president for mitigating political tensions in Rivers, crediting his actions with restoring stability.
