Mrs Victoria Okoh |
A chilling incident has left the town of Oron in shock as a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Victor Okoh, aged 42, allegedly murdered his wife, Victoria Okoh (38), in a gruesome act of violence over suspicions of infidelity. The tragic event, which unfolded in the early hours of Monday, has been dubbed "Black Monday" by residents.
According to the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, the suspect was arrested following a distress call from neighbors who were horrified by the scene at the couple’s residence. Police officers arrived at the home around 5:20 am to find the mutilated body of Victoria lying in front of the house. Preliminary investigations revealed that Victor had attacked his wife with a machete in what witnesses described as an unprovoked and barbaric act.
In a desperate attempt to evade arrest, the suspect was found hiding in the ceiling of the house but was swiftly apprehended by law enforcement officers. The weapon used in the crime has been recovered, and the body of the deceased has been taken to the General Hospital Morgue for an autopsy.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, has strongly condemned the act, describing it as a heinous crime that has no place in society. He assured the public that justice would be served and warned against domestic violence, urging residents to seek peaceful and lawful means of resolving disputes.
“This is a tragic and unacceptable act of violence,” CP Azare stated. “We must all work together to ensure that such incidents do not occur in our communities. I urge everyone to report any signs of domestic abuse or suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will face the full weight of the law.
