In its ongoing efforts to cleanse Nigeria’s financial sector and protect the public from fraudulent investment schemes, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a warning about 58 companies operating illegally as investment entities.
These companies are accused of defrauding unsuspecting Nigerians of their hard-earned money through Ponzi schemes.
The EFCC revealed that none of the listed companies are registered with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) or the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Both regulatory bodies, in separate communications with the EFCC, confirmed that these entities are not authorized to operate in Nigeria.
The Commission has already taken legal action against many of these companies. So far, five have been convicted, another five have pleaded guilty and are awaiting review of facts, while the remaining cases are pending arraignment.
