The Cross River State Acting Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey has nominated four individuals to fill vacant positions on the State Judicial Service Commission.
This was announced by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Nsa Gill, in a statement on Wednesday.
This decision aligns with the constitutional provisions outlined in Paragraph 5 of Part II of the Third Schedule of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (As Amended).
The nominees, whose appointments are subject to confirmation by the State House of Assembly, are:
1. Komomo Ntem Ikpi, Esq.
2. Tasen Okune, Esq.
3. Imaji Teresa Odey
4. Chief Asuquo Asuquo Asibong
These appointments are for a tenure of five years. The nominees will join the statutory members of the Commission, which includes the Chief Judge of the State (who serves as the Chairman), the Attorney General of the State, and the President of the Customary Court of Appeal of the State.
The constitutional provisions also mandate the inclusion of two legal practitioners with at least ten years of experience and two other individuals of unquestionable integrity who are not legal practitioners. This ensures a balanced and comprehensive composition of the Commission.
Upon confirmation by the State House of Assembly, the new members will officially commence their roles, contributing to the effective administration of justice in Cross River State.
The Acting Governor’s Office expressed confidence that the nominees will bring valuable expertise and integrity to the Commission, further enhancing the state’s judicial processes.
