In a bid to maintain the existing peace and bolster the security framework in Cross River State, Governor Bassey Otu has officially inaugurated Operation Okwok, a joint security task force. The launch ceremony, held at the governor’s office, included the distribution of 100 operational trucks to kickstart the initiative immediately.
During the event, Governor Otu issued a stern warning to criminal elements, urging them to either leave the state or face the full force of the law.
“This is a significant milestone for Cross River State. When we assumed office, we encountered numerous challenges, with security being a top priority on our agenda. Today, incidents of robbery and kidnapping have become a thing of the past. I extend my special commendation to my Special Adviser on Security and the service chiefs for their efforts in reducing insecurity to the barest minimum,” the governor stated.
He added, “To the remaining criminals, my advice is simple: migrate or face the law.”
Governor Otu highlighted that the first phase of the initiative focuses on providing critical infrastructure to support security operations, including the construction of multiple security bases. He reassured residents and investors alike that Cross River State remains a safe haven.
“Cross River is now the safest subnational region in the country. We want to assure investors that their investments are secure here,” he affirmed.
The governor also called on residents to actively collaborate with security forces by providing timely and relevant information to help sustain peace across the state.
The launch event was attended by service chiefs, members of the state executive council, and representatives from the State House of Assembly.
