The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has announced concessions for beneficiaries of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) for the 2023/2024 academic session who were unable to access the fund.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Calabar, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Tony Eyang, revealed that affected students would be allowed to register for the 2024/2025 academic session.
Prof. Eyang explained that the 2023/2024 loan, once released, would be utilized to cover the tuition fees for the 2024/2025 session. Additionally, the 2024/2025 loan will be reimbursed to graduating students after completing their bursary clearance.
He stated that students who paid their full tuition for both sessions would be refunded the fees paid for the 2023/2024 session upon the release of the 2024/2025 loan. Graduates from the 2023/2024 session will also receive refunds after completing their clearance.
“Beneficiaries who made partial payments in 2023/2024 but have outstanding balances must settle them during the 2024/2025 session,” he added.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor further noted that the university's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre remains the hub for NELFUND registration. Configurations are underway to ensure beneficiaries’ dashboards on the fee portal reflect NELFUND disbursements.
Prof. Eyang encouraged students to seize the opportunity and register for the education loan, stressing that verification of applicants is ongoing.
NELFUND, an initiative of the Federal Government, provides financial assistance to students in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
