How Daughter Connived With Her Boyfriend To Fake Kidnap to Extort N2 Million from Parents

In a startling turn of events, the Delta State Police Command has arrested a young woman who staged her own kidnapping to extort N2 million from her parents, along with her accomplice, in Asaba.

SP Bright Edafe, the Command’s spokesperson, revealed the dramatic case to journalists on Wednesday in Warri. The arrest, carried out by the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad led by CSP Labe Joseph, followed an intelligence-led investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda.

The scheme unraveled after a complaint was lodged on January 2, 2025, by Mrs. Oliko Joy, who reported that her daughter, Princess, had gone missing on December 30, 2024. The following day, the family received a chilling call, claiming Princess had been kidnapped, with a ransom demand of N2 million for her release.

“The CP immediately directed the Command’s special squad to ensure the victim was rescued unhurt and the suspects arrested,” SP Edafe explained.

The squad's swift investigation led to the arrest of Prince Atigbi, who had collected the ransom money. During questioning, Atigbi revealed he was not a kidnapper but was acting on the instructions of his girlfriend, Princess.

When Princess was taken into custody, she confessed to orchestrating the entire plot to extort money from her parents. The police have since recovered the N2 million ransom.

“This case highlights the lengths some individuals are willing to go for financial gain. Thankfully, our operatives acted swiftly to uncover the truth,” SP Edafe said.

Both suspects remain in custody as investigations continue. The police have reassured the public of their unwavering commitment to combating crime and protecting residents in Delta State.
