In alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government has inaugurated the Presidential Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy (PACPM). This initiative underscores the administration's commitment to justice, rehabilitation, and human rights in Nigeria.
The inauguration, led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, CON, emphasized the constitutional foundation of the committee. “Section 175 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) empowers the President to grant pardons to individuals convicted of offences under federal laws. The PACPM is an essential administrative mechanism to ensure this process is seamless and efficient,” Senator Akume stated.
The 15-member committee, drawn from key institutions and expert professionals, includes the following:

The PACPM is mandated to operate for four years, focusing on decongesting correctional facilities and ensuring eligible and deserving inmates are recommended for presidential pardon.
Speaking at the event, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice assured President Tinubu of the committee’s dedication to facilitating justice and reintegrating pardoned individuals into society.
