Eric Chelle Unveiled as New Super Eagles Coach

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially unveiled Eric Chelle as the new head coach of the Nigeria Super Eagles. The unveiling ceremony took place on Monday, January 13, at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

Chelle’s appointment, confirmed last Tuesday, makes him the 42nd substantive head coach of the Super Eagles. Speaking during the ceremony, NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau expressed optimism about Chelle’s ability to take the team to greater heights.

“We appreciate the fact that Nigerians are very passionate about football, which is why there have been different reactions following the appointment of Coach Chelle,” Gusau said on Sunday. He called on Nigerians to unite in supporting the new coach, emphasizing the NFF’s confidence in Chelle’s potential for success.

“The NFF will give him all the support that he needs to succeed in the job,” Gusau added, assuring fans of the Federation’s commitment to Chelle’s success.

Chelle’s immediate task is to lead the Super Eagles B team at the upcoming African Nations Championship in East Africa next month. Following this, he will guide the senior team in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, with matches against Rwanda (away) and Zimbabwe (home) scheduled for March.

The newly appointed coach brings extensive experience to the role, having previously guided Mali’s Aiglons to the brink of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals. Chelle recently stepped down as manager of Algerian club MC Oran, where he had been leading the 1989 African Champions’ Cup finalists, to take up the Super Eagles position.

The NFF has urged all football-loving Nigerians to rally behind Chelle as he embarks on this crucial journey with the Super Eagles.
