At least 40 farmers have been reportedly killed by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday in Kayakura village, a farming community in Doron Baga ward. The assault also left dozens of farmers missing.
This incident comes just 24 hours after two people were killed and a church was set ablaze in a similar attack on Chibok community in the southern part of the state.
A local source reported that the attackers invaded the villages in large numbers, firing sporadically. “As we speak, many people are missing, and they killed more than 40 farmers, predominantly those who escaped the attack in Gwoza Local Government Area,” the source said.
However, a security source in the area provided a lower death toll, stating that 30 people were killed during the attack on the farmers.
Efforts to reach the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Kenneth Daso, for confirmation were unsuccessful, as his phone line was not reachable at the time of reporting.
