Eight universities across Nigeria, including Arthur Jarvis University in Akpabuyo, Cross River State, have been suspended from admitting new candidates into their law degree programmes.
The suspension was announced by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.
The decision follows the suspension of the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme by the Council of Legal Education for the 2025/2026 academic session.
JAMB's spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, confirmed that the affected universities will not be permitted to admit students into their law programmes for the upcoming academic year.
In a statement, Benjamin said, “As a result, JAMB will not approve any admissions for candidates seeking to enroll in the Law programme at the aforementioned universities for the 2025/2026 academic session.”
The full list of universities affected by the suspension includes:
1. Kwara State University, Malete, Ilorin, Kwara State
2. Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State
3. Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State
4. Redeemers University, Ede, Osun State
5. Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta State
6. Taraba State University, Jalingo, Taraba State
7. Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River State
8. Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State
Benjamin also clarified that the suspension of the Law programme at the Nigerian Police Academy will extend for two academic sessions, covering both the 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 sessions. He stated, “Furthermore, the ban on registration for the Law programme at the Nigerian Police Academy will extend into the 2026/2027 academic session.”
