Supports groups in Cross River State have given Engr. Ben Akak a 24-hour ultimatum to show his All Progressives Congress, APC's nomination form to contest the 2023 governorship election, otherwise, he should expect mob action from them.
The groups dissociated themselves from the consensus arrangement adopted by the APC in Cross River State, calling it undemocratic and an infringement on the right of Engr. Akak.
In a statement jointly signed by 32 heads of the different support groups, the groups also rejected the congratulatory message sent to Senator Bassey Otu, the consensus candidate of the APC, by the Engr. Akak.
The statement read:
ENGR. BEN AKAK MUST CONTEST THE APC PRIMARIES OR DEFECT TO ANOTHER PARTY NOW TO STAND IN FOR THE GOVERNORSHIP ELECTIONS OR FACE OUR MASS ACTION WITHIN 24 HOURS.
We the Joint Campaign Council of all the Political Support Groups of Engr. Ben Akak under the umbrella of Engr. Ben Akak Movement and Engr. Ben Akak Advocacy Group wish to state very clearly and unequivocally, that we give Engr. Ben Akak 24 hours from the time of this publication to either show to us his APC gubernatorial nomination form purchased by him for the forth coming primaries of the party, or tell us his plans of defecting to another party to stand in for the 2023 elections OR he should be prepared for a mob action from us which includes amongts others:
1. Abandoning him and a party he wants to die for, but do not appreciate him.
2. Massively defecting to any party that will protect our interest.
3. And any other action we may deemed necessary to take after suffering humiliation from family members, friends and political opponents due to his congratulatory message to Prince Bassey Otu without taking into consideration the political interest of thousands of our members who followed him to APC, promoted the party while others were ashamed of talking about the party in the state.
We want to let the world know that while the APC may have come up with what they called Consensus candidate and have gotten congratulatory message from Engr. Ben Akak, we his supporters and foot soldiers vehemently disassociate ourselves from such kangaroo arrangement which is not just undemocratic but an infringement on the right of not just our Principal, Engr. Ben Akak, but on thousands of we his supporters who believed he is the only person in the state for now that has the requisite foresight to create a better and prosperous Cross River State as from 2023.
Engr. Ben Akak should know that his silence since after the kangaroo arangement called Consensus, and after his congratulatory message to Prince Bassey Otu with a promise to address his supporters is no more golden.
We therefore demand that he should immediately within the time frame of this ultimatum,
1. Address us with no further delay, bearing in mind that when those that have been favored now and their supporters were ashamed of promoting APC as a party in the State or associating with the projects and programs of the Gov. Ben Ayade-led government, we were the only group that projected both the party and the state in good light, evidences abound.
2. Engr. Ben Akak must stand in for the 2023 governorship elections in Cross River State either in APC or another party. If he will fail, he should be at the field and not through the decision of a few individuals who do not have the interest of Cross River State at heart.
3. That if at the expiration of our ultimatum nothing is heard from Engr. Ben Akak, he and his party the APC will hear from us in a very simple language they will understand.
We are not part of their consensus and refused to agree to it. Since those who were ashamed of the party and had their supporters openly criticised the party and the government are the ones currently being rewarded, we therefore see it as a system that rewards mediocrity and are ready to fight such system.
This shall be our first and last warning.
Thanks.
