Two Soldiers, Others Arrested For Armed Robbery, Murder In Borno

• ISWAP abducts health worker

By Agency Report

Police in Borno State have arrested five suspects, including two soldiers, for alleged armed robbery and murder.

Commissioner of Police Abdu Umar told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Maiduguri that the suspects robbed a Point of Sale (POS) agent on February 6 at GSM Market, Bulumkutu, then shot and killed a man and injured another.

He said operatives of the Command initially arrested three of the suspects – Mustapha Lawan, alias Bakura Dantawaye, Abubakar Mohammed, alias Bro Shagi, and Umar Ibrahim.

The police commissioner said the suspects confessed to the crime and named two soldiers, Private Igogo Michael and Private Jibrin Adamu, alleged to be members of the gang.

The state government yesterday also confirmed the abduction of a health worker with the General Hospital Gubio, Mr Bulama Geidam, by the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP).

The insurgents attacked Gubio yesterday at about 2a.m., looting food items and fuel from a humanitarian truck.

Commissioner for Health, Juliana Bitruce, who confirmed the abduction to NAN in Maiduguri, said the incident was “unfortunate and disturbing”.

She said that the abducted health worker was among those who remained at their duty posts in spite of the challenges of insecurity in the area.
