As the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) draws closer, the Cross River State Commissioner for Health, Dr Betta Edu has emerged as the consensus candidate for the position of National Woman Leader, following the micro zoning of positions into the National Executive Committee membership of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for South-South geopolitical zone.
In the same vein, Chief (Barr) Felix Edet also emerged as the consensus candidate for the position of Special Leader to represent persons with disability in the working committee of the party.
The Convention is scheduled for March 16, 2022 at the Eagles Square in Abuja.
It was gathered that the emergence of Dr Edu as consensus candidate was brokered after a meeting of all woman leader aspirants from Cross River State with the State Chairman of the party Alphonsus Ogar Eba Esq which lasted for several hours.
After the meeting, the other aspirants unanimously adopted Dr Edu as the consensus candidate to represent women at the national level of the ruling APC come March 26, 2022, where their decision would be formally ratified.
Dr Betta is also a member of the 9-man APC National Reconciliation Committee led by Sen Dr Abdullahi Adamu, set up to reconcile, harmonise, integrate all aggrieved members of the party, and cement all cracks, dialogue for peace and all encompassing unity of the party.
She is also the chairman, Nigeria Health Commissioners Forum. And a former Director-General, Primary Healthcare Development Agency Cross River State.
