BREAKING: Senate, Reps Passes LG Autonomy Bill, Abolishes State/LGA Joint Account


 

The Nigerian Senate, on Tuesday, passed the Bill granting full autonomy to the local government and council areas in Nigeria.


Ninety-Two members of the red chambers voted overwhelmingly in support of the Bill, after a clause-by-clause consideration at the Committee on the Whole.


Similarly, the House of Representatives, on Tuesday, also voted for local government autonomy in the ongoing review of the 1999 Constitution ( as amended).


The House also voted for the abrogation of the states/ local government joint account, as well as financial autonomy for the states legislature and judiciary.
