We Gave UCTH, UUTH, 50 Others N900M Each To Build Isolation Centres, ICUs, Lab Equipments - FG

 

The Federal Government has revealed that it disbursed not less than N900 million each, totaling N50bn as part of the COVID-19 intervention fund to 52 federal tertiary institutions in the country.


It explained that the fund was disbursed for the procurement of molecular equipment, equipment of isolation centres and for the equipment of 10 bedded intensive care units.


These details were revealed by the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning in response to a Freedom of Information request sent to it by the Chief Executive, Connected Development and Follow the Money, a leading anti-corruption civil society organisation, Hamzat Lawal.


The reply titled, ‘Re: Request for information’, and was signed by the Director, National Monitoring and Evaluation, Dr Zakri Lawal.


The document showed that the Federal Government approved the sum of N50bn as an intervention fund.


The fund was disbursed to 52 federal tertiary health institutions across the six geo-political zones.


It was observed that each of the 52 institutions received N353,634,615.38 for the 10 bedded intensive care units; N100,000,000 each for equipping of isolation treatment centres in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory; N345,848,654 for the procurement of molecular laboratory equipment; and N149,750,000.30 for the procurement of personal protection equipment.


The document gave the list of benefitting institutions as the University College Hospital, Ibadan; Lagos University Teaching Hospital; Ahmadu Bello Teaching Hospital; University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital; University of Benin Teaching Hospital; Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital; University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital; Jos University Teaching Hospital; University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital; and the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.


Others are the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital; Usman Dan Fodio Teaching Hospital; Aminu Kano University Teaching Hospital; Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital; University of Abuja Teaching Hospital; Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital; Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki; Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe; Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti; Irrua Specialist Hospital; and the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital.


The list also includes the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi; Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu; Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Kaduna; Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital. Calabar; Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Maiduguri; Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Sokoto; Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Yaba; Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Abeokuta; Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Benin City; Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia; Federal Medical Centre, Owo; Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta; Federal Medical Centre, Owerri; Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi; Federal Medical Centre, Katsina; Federal Medical Centre, Nguru-Yobe; and Federal Medical Centre, Asaba.
