UNICAL Imposes Curfew Due To Incessant Fire Outbreaks


 

The management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has imposed curfew throughout the University community to curb the incessant fire outbreaks in the university.


Yesterday, February 9, the Department of Continuous Education and Development Studies was gutted by fire. In less than two months, the university has recorded four fire outbreaks.


In a release by the University's Public Relations Unit, a list of security measures was rolled out by the management of the university.


The measures include:


1. night reading in the main campus is banned till further notice


2. night reading is restricted to SLT 2,3, 4 and 5 only


3. all reading activities in the classrooms should end by 10.30pm prompt and thereafter all students are expected to move to their respective hostels


 4. movement in and out of Campus is now restricted to 10pm and residents on campus are advised to adhere to the directives


5. all entry points in and out of the University of Calabar other than the main gate will be shut by 7pm daily.


"These directives are for the good and safety of our institution and will be reverted as soon as the current situation is brought under control. "
