THE LEADERSHIP OF FAMOUS YOUTH GROUP, "NKA IKEMESIT MKPARAWA ESSIEN EFIK DUOP-EBA" REACTS TO A PUBLICATION BY INI EKUT
RE: 2023: APC CROSS RIVER 1st ELEVEN ASPIRANTS... The Front Runners.
Our attention has been drawn to an article circulating on media platforms: 2023: APC CROSS RIVER 1st ELEVEN ASPIRANTS....The Front Runners" by Ini Ekut. The article attempts to give a comparative analysis of the aspirants, which is highly commendable, given our resolve to strengthen democracy through constructive engagements. While we appreciate the effort of Ini Ekut, we frown at contents aimed at tarnishing the genuine image of our leaders in the political arena.
We are a conglomeration of all indigenous youth groups cutting across all twelve (12) ancestral clans of Efik kingdom. History and Providence have put us on the centre of affairs within Cross River South and the Efik youths in particular, hence the privilege to put records straight and correct certain impressions. However, we will limit this to the patron of our noble organisation. The writer had portrayed High Chief Prof. Eyo Etim Nyong as one who’s not youth friendly.
Nka Ikemesit Mkparawa Essien Efik Duop-Eba on a courtesy call to their Patron, High Chief Prof Eyo Etim Nyong |
As an apolitical organisation, our initial inkling was to ignore both the message and the messenger, but on a second thought, we cannot stand aloof while someone or group of persons peddle falsehoods and half-truths against our highly respected Patron, Prof Eyo Etim Nyong and other leaders in Southern Senatorial District.
Going forward, we categorically state that:
1. We give unalloyed support to the government and leadership of His excellency, Senator Prof. Benedict B. Ayade. We also appreciate his resilience and resolve to cede power to southern senatorial district come 2023.
2. We congratulate the Obong of Calabar, His Eminence, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu (V), Natural Ruler, Treaty King, Defender of Christian Faith and Grand Patriarch of Efik Kingdom; also, the 'Etuboms' and the Obong of Calabar Executive Forum (OCEF) for a successful UTOMO OBONG 2021.
3. We applaud the Chairman of Utomo Obong 2021, High Chief Prof. Eyo Etim Nyong for being a leading light in Efik kingdom and Cross River State at large. We remain grateful to him for INCORPORATING YOUTH GROUPS in the itinerary of Utomo Obong for the first time during this great event.
4. We bring to the knowledge of the general public our confidence in Prof. Eyo Etim Nyong, father of the youths in diverse Efik and Cross River State communities. He holds the title "Ada-Usung Mkparawa Efik", meaning, "Leader of the Efik Youths". It is absolutely wrong therefore, for anyone to describe him as not being youth friendly. This is a man who picks all calls from known and unknown sources, listens to all, grants as many requests as possible, and keeps his doors open to all. For the past two decades, he has been committed to empowering women and youths across the State. Evidently while in the NDDC, he made special provision for women and youths package throughout his short period in the agency. Commendably, this gesture continued until today, where several youths have benefited from him through special sponsorship in the academic and entrepreneural sectors as well as assisting many in gaining employment opportunities, etc.
5. We also condemn blackmails on Distinguished Senator Bassey Otu, Etubom Arch. Bassey Eyo Ndem who are also patrons of our organisation; and other great leaders who have contributed meaningfully to the development of our immediate constituency and Cross River State at large.
6. We stand by the Governor on the "BACK TO SOUTH AGENDA 2023" and we are ready to work with well meaning Cross Riverians for the emergence of "tested and trusted" candidates for the governorship and other positions.
7. We encourage the media to constructively engage prospective candidates, but let this be done devoid of blackmails and character defamation.
Long Live Cross River State!
Long Live Efik Nation!!
