Youths of Central Senatorial District of Cross River State have sent a strong threat to the Chairman Ben Akak Foundation and CEO Bengies Group of Companies, Engr. Ben Akak requesting that he declares for the governorship seat of Cross River State come 2023 or face the risk of being taken to court.
The Youths who stormed out of a town hall meeting after a motion was moved, that Engr. Ben Akak be approached to run for Governor of the state found their way into the busy Ikom Monday market where they threatened to institute a legal action against Ben Akak should he fail to indicate interest to run for Governor.
The youths insisted that Akak is a man with a good heart, an upright man whose leadership would only bring good tidings to the people, hence the need to finish the good works which he had already started by declaring his intentions to become governor as they are strongly with him and would support him all the way.
It was gathered that a town hall meeting was called at the instance of the Youth wing of the Ben Akak Foundation to feel the pulse of youths from central Cross River State to carry out needs assessment.
“Since the foundation needed to know the direct needs of young persons from this district . It was an avenue to engage the youths, to get first hand information, a sort of needs assessment so that as a foundation with the data gathered they can plan the year with the exact needs of young persons." Our source informed.
During the town hall meeting held at the Ben Akak Foundation Youth House in Ikom, the youths had called on Engr Ben Akak Foundation to improve its Humanitarian work by including educational needs such as bursary, scholarships etc for students while engaging youths in skills and trade.
Speaking at the town hall meeting, the Vice Chairman of Ikom LGA, Mrs Alice Erem Abung advised the young people to remain active and less problematic as they are the bed rock of the community. She also noted that the Ben Akak Foundation has been at the forefront of youth development, she pleaded that it continued in its good strides by including all the request made by the Youths.
While the meeting was ongoing an elated youth moved a motion for young persons in Central to approach Engr. Ben Akak to declare for governor. With this motion, the teeming crowd of youths stormed out of the venue of the town hall meeting headed to the market for an impromptu rally where they made their demands known.
