Cholera Claims 6 Lives In Cross River Communities


 

At least six people have been confirmed dead in Cross River State following a cholera outbreak that in riverine Communities in Odukpani, Akampa and Bakassi local government areas of the state.


State Commissioner For Health ,Betta Edu said this when she led the health surveillance and awareness team to Old Netim in Akampa Local Government Area for an on- the-spot assessment


The commissioner alongside primary health care head Janet Ekpenyong said after the deaths from the Cholera Outbreak, the Health team hae changed strategy with intense surveillance within communities and local government areas


Representatives of the affected communities narrated their ordeals to the visiting team and emphasized the need for proper environmental hygiene..


The Commissioner said Primary Healthcare Centres are operational with free drugs available to deal with such outbreaks, adding that Ministries,Departments and Agencies have been involved in the environmental hygiene advocacy.
