Amb. Toyo, who is the founder of Gender And Development Action and the only female aspirant so far to indicate interest to occupy the Diamond Hill Government House in Calabar.

During the visit, Amb Toyo decried the level of deplorable state of things in the state. She said: “Cross River State is no longer what it used to be. The level of aberration and collapse is annoying and sad. If we allow the mess on ground to go unresolved, the State will be worse in the next coming years.”

On the issue of gender, the foremost right activist said “ I have heard some highly placed Cross Riverians say that the state is not ready yet for a female governor. But I have not even gone round the state to hear from the people, so how did these people come to that conclusion? I intend to go round the entire 18 LGAs and talk to our people and if Cross Riverians say they don’t want a woman, then so be it, but not for one person to stand up and say that we cannot not have a female governor.

“Women in politics brings new dynamics into the system. Women in the State now have the opportunity they have been yearning for.”

Reacting, former governor Duke extoled the leadership ability of Amb Toyo saying “ as a former diplomat, I have no doubt about your ability to lead our dear state very well.

"One thing you cannot take away from Nkoyo is that she has a lot of passion. Her passion in achieving task is very obvious and you need to be very strong to cope with her passion.

"She has a lot of passion and it is not a negative one, it is a positive one, she has the education and every other thing, so we are proud of her. I have no doubt of what she can do.

“We need a leadership that communicates with the people and I believe that is what she can offer”.
