Top Cross River 2023 Governorship hopefuls |
With the tremendous growth of internet/social media users, it became imperative to conduct an INDEPENDENT public opinion survey ahead of 2023 governorship election in Cross River State. However, the result does not represent the general views of voters across the State, but a fraction of social media users.
Aspirants with top-5 highest votes are Sir Arthur Jarvis - PDP (17.55%), Barr. Edem Ekong - APC (13.58%) Prof. Eyo Etim Nyong - APC (13.25%), Amb. Nkoyo Toyo - PDP (13.25) and Engr. Ben Akak APC (10.6%).
Others in the survey are: Architect Bassey Eyo Ndem APC (7.2%), Hon. Asuquo Ekpenyong APC (1.99%) Sen. Prince Bassey Otu - APC (7.28), Rt. Hon Daniel Asuquo -PDP (8.28%), Sen. Gershom Bassey - PDP (4.24%), Rt. Hon. Orok Duke - APC (0.33%) and Barr. Efiok Cobham - PDP (1.99%)
From the survey, there are substantial facts to be deduced:
Most of the aspirants who made the list have not declared officially their interest in the exalted office, yet, top the chart with reasonable votes. Barr Edem Ekong, Prof Nyong, Amb Toyo, Sen. Otu, and a few others are yet to officially join the 2023 race.
Apparently, one could quickly assume and/perhaps agree to the evolving voting pattern in the state. To many, it is not going to be business as usual. The defection of the Governor to the All Progressives Congress swore in a healthy competition with a striking balance in party politics. Until May 2021, Cross River remained a one-party State.
The two major parties are made of political gladiators; that makes it even more difficult assembling any survey that predicts the exact outcome of the main election. In the PDP, Amb. Nkoyo Toyo (presumably the only woman in the race), a one time House of Reps member for Calabar Mun./Odukpani Federal Constituency and former Nigerian Ambassador to one of the most powerful countries in Africa, will be slugging out PDP ticket with a sitting Senator, a sitting House of Reps member and former Deputy Governor of the State, and Arthur Jarvis, the proprietor of Arthur Jarvis University.
APC on the other hand, seems to be more organised, every potential aspirant is observing table manners while waiting for directives from the party structure. However, bigwigs to watch out for in the race include High Chief Prof. Eyo Etim Nyong, a former NDDC commissioner, Barr. Edem Ekong, former State appointee, Prince Bassey Otu, a former senator of the Federal Republic, Architect Bassey Ndem and Engr. Ben. Akak, a business tycoon.
