The people's democratic party (PDP), Akpabuyo Local Government chapter, under the leadership of Sir. Arthur Jarvis Archibong, was on the 15th day of January 2022. overtaken by the torrent of joy as over two thousand (2000) APC faithfuls, chieftains and stakeholders of Akpabuyo Local Government Area, joyfully decamped to the PDP.
The decampees, who came from across the ten (10) wards of Akpabuyo Local Government, in their various speeches, recurrently decried the disorganization level of the APC, it's ineptitude and inability to salvage the situation of our dear state.
Receiving the decampees officially to PDP, Sir. Arthur Jarvis Archibong, and Hon. Prince Etim Bassey (Akpabuyo PDP Chapter Chairman), accompanied by Rt. Hon. Dominic Aqua Edem, Ntufam Ekpo Okon, Hon. Francis Ekeng (PDP State Organizing Secretary), Chief Godwin Igwe (Obubra PDP Chapter Chairman and Chairman of Chapter Chairmen forum), Abi, Bakassi and Calabar South Chapter Chairmen amongst other dignitaries said, that the PDP has always been the grounds upon which the political structure of Cross River State was built and has till date remained the only party that has successively produced the governors of Cross River State, since democracy day to date; a feat that will hastily be repeated in the 2023 gubernatorial election.
The decampees expressed total submission to the umbrella of the people's democratic party, stating that from inception, they had been members of the PDP though were cajoled into the APC, which has glaringly showed it's deficiencies and inability to further be deemed fit to harbour or least be productive come 2023, thus informed their decision to return home; comparing their situation with that of the biblical prodigal son.
The pinnacle of this event featured a broom burning rituals, signifying the incineration of the APC in Akpabuyo Local Government Area.
Following the trend of defections bedeviling the APC nationwide and particularly in Cross River State, it would need no soothsayer to envisage more defections before the 2023 elections; It follows therefore that, the PDP has awoken and repositioned to take back power come 2023.
