Don't Pay More Than N50 Per Drop - C'River Govt Urge Commutters

The Cross River State Government has urged public transport users in Cross River State not to pay more than N50 for a short distance drop.

This is in reaction to the recent increase in transportation fares by taxi drivers in Calabar.

GRASSROOT REPORTERS had reported that taxi drivers in Calabar increased the price of taxi fares from N50 to N100 for short distance trip within the metropolis with effect from Monday, 22nd November, 2021.

The group in a statement, cited the high cost of spare parts, fuel and other commodities in the market

But in a statement on Friday, the State Commissioner for Transport and Marine Services, Hon. Oqua Edet Oqua advised transport operators to stick to the agreed fee of N50 per short drop. Hon. Oqua also advised commutters not to pay above the agreed amount.

The state reads:

"The attention of Ministry of Transport and Marine Service has been drawn to a purported document in circulation increasing the transportation fares within the metropolis from Monday 22 November  2021. 

"As a ministry in charge of public transportation in Cross River State, we are calling on all transportation operators in Cross River State to keep to the initial agreed fare of Fifty Naira a drop. Commuters are also advised not to pay more than the prescribed fares as agreed by all stakeholders." The statement reads.
