Man Sentenced To Death For Killing Wife, Child

An Adamawa high court has sentenced a man to death for killing his wife and a child she brought into the family, his stepson.

The High Court sitting in the state capital, Yola, ordered that 40-year-old Bangos Adamu be hanged for killing his wife, Regina Bongos and her child, Revelation James.

Justice Fatimah Tafida held the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt that Bangos was guilty of the 2-count charge levelled against him by the prosecution, and convicted him.

The convict, a farmer who hails from Janjaba village in Gombi local government area, was earlier charged to court for killing his wife by hitting her with an axe and hacking her child with a cutlass.

Bangos, in his confessional statement, told the court that he married his late wife after she was divorced by her former husband and she came to his house with Revelation whom she bore for her former husband.

He informed the court anytime they had misunderstanding, the deceased would be complaining and threatening to return to her former husband.

According to him, they were together at home on the 15th June, 2021 when she asked him to buy bread for the family instead of grains for breakfast but he refused.

He said as soon as he responded he was not going to buy the bread, she started grumbling it was better for her to return to her former husband’s house.

He added her response made him angry and he started nursing grudges against her and the child.

He said when all of them retired to bed he got up, armed himself with axe and cutlass and hit her three times in the head.

He added that while she was struggling between life and death, he used his cutlass to hack little Revelation to death.

He said he rushed out and reported himself to chairman of the local Hunters Association who handed him over to the police.
