C'River Governor Suspends Calabar Carnival Commission Chair, To Investigate Land's Ministry, CRGIA

Mr. Gabe Onah

 By Obio Monday

The governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ben Ayade has suspended the Chairman of Calabar Carnival Commission, Mr. Gabe Onah.

Mr.  Onah who was appointed in 2007 by former Liyel Imoke was relieved of his appointment today, April 5, in a statement signed by the Governor's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Christian Ita.

Though no reason was given for Onah's suspension, government sources told GRASSROOT REPORTERS that his suspension may not be unconnected with the nonpayment of contractors since after the 2019 edition of the carnival.  Another source who preferred anonymity said he may have been suspended for awarding some of the governor's fierce critics at the just concluded 2021 Carnival Commission Media awards.

In a related development, the governor has set up a committee to investigate the activities of the State Ministry of Lands and Urban Development as well as the Cross River Geographical Information Agency (CRGIA).

In a statement signed by Mr. Ita and available to GRASSROOT REPORTERS, the committee has Mrs. Franca Inok, the Auditor General for Local Government as Chairman while Mr. Efa Eja and Mrs Agede Ibe  will serve as Members.

The committee to investigate CRGIA has Mr. Henry Ojodu as Chairman while Mr. Michael Mbang and Prince Ekanem Ekpo Nya are to serve as Members.
