Ayade Has Not Lifted 10pm-6am Curfew, Disregard Rumour - C'River Govt

By Obio Monday

The Cross River State Government has denied lifting the curfew it imposed last year as a result of the violent #EndSARS protest that rocked the state.

Cross River State witnessed unprecedented looting, vandalization and burning of public and private properties. This prompted Governor Ben Ayade to declare a dusk to dawn curfew which was later relaxed to 6am to 10pm.

There have been calls on social media for the over 6 months old curfew to be lifted.

Reacting to a fake press statement circulating online, the Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Christian Ita, called on members of the public to discountenance the report as it did not emanate from him.

The statement reads: "My attention has been drawn to a press statement purported issued by me announcing the lifting of curfew by His Excellency, the State Governor, Sir Ben Ayade.

"I wish to state categorically that the said statement was not issued by me. It is another handiwork of mischief makers who have gone to the extend of cloning government letterhead in their bid to sow confusion.

"I therefore urge members of the public to please, disregard the statement as the 10pm-6am is still much in force". The statement added.
