Road Accident Claims 6 Lives Along Calabar - Itu Road, Many Seriously Injured






Report reaching GRASSROOT REPORTERS say no fewer than seven persons have died from a ghastly motor accident involving a fuel tanker and two tricyles popularly called Keke Napep, along Calabar - Itu road in Itu LGA of Akwa Ibom State.



The accident happened along the failed portion of the road at Ntak Inyang area which is currently under repair by the Akwa Ibom State Government after it was cut off by a landslide.


Eyewitnesses said that the tricycles were conveying school children and some passengers before the unfortunate circumstance occurred.

Reports said that the driver and the passengers including school children died after the tank ran over the tricycle, with scores seriously injured.



When contacted, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in the state said the agency was gathering facts about the accident.

The Sector Commander in Akwa Ibom State, Oga Ochi, told newsmen that FRSC officers have been dispatched to the scene after receiving information about the crash.


The FRSC sector commander further said that the accident occurred because the truck was at an excessive speed when it rammed into the tricycles,  adding that investigation into the incident was still ongoing.
