Alleged Kidnapper Arrested In Calabar

A 24-year-old alleged kidnapper has been arrested by troops from the 13 Brigade of  the Nigerian Army, Calabar, Cross River State.

The troops attached to Operation Akpakwu, a security outfit set up by Governor Ben Ayade, arrested Kingsley Offiong, an indigene of Ibiono LGA of Akwa Ibom State for allegedly kidnapping an 18-year-old Mr. James Ade and demanding ransom from the victim's family.

Parading the suspect before newsmen on Friday, March 27, 2021, before newsmen at headquarters of 13 Brigade Nigerian army, in Calabar, the Commander, 13 Brigade, Brig. Gen.Abdullahi Mohammed said the suspect was arrested at Umo Orok by Afokang, close to the headquarters of the Nigeria Correctional Service in Calabar South.

Major Stanley Ikpeme who spoke on behalf of the Commander, 13 Brigade, stated that the suspect lured his victim via the social media from Ikom Local Government Area of the state to Umoh Orok street by Afokang in Calabar.

Major Ikpeme further said that the suspect and his accomplices, one Emmy Nice and one Aboki who are now at large robbed their victim and called the victim's family to pay a ransom for his release.

Handing over the suspect to the police, Major Ikpeme said:

“In view of the above, I am directed to hand over the the suspect to you for further investigation and possible prosecution.
