Governor Ayade To Swear-In Justice Ikpeme As State Chief Judge On Monday, Feb 8

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State will on Monday, February 8, swear-in Justice Akon Ikpeme as the Chief Judge of the State.


Justice Ikpeme was twice rejected by the Cross River State House of Assembly on grounds of being a non-indigene even though she was born in Cross River State and her mother from the state. She is also married to Dr. Bassey Ikpeme, a medical doctor from Odukpani Local Government Area of the state.


She was however confirmed by the lawmakers last week, following the expiration of the three months acting tenure of Justice  Eyo Effiom Ita.


A statement on Friday by Barr. Tina Agbor, Secretary to the State Government, reads:

"His Excellency, Senator Prof Ben Ayade, the Executive Governor of Cross River State will on Monday 8th Feb, 2021 in the Executive council Chambers,Governor's office, Calabar, swear in Hon Justice Akon Bassey Ikpeme as the Chief Judge of Cross River State. This follows the confirmation of her nomination by the Cross River State House of Assembly.

"Accordingly the Hon Speaker and members of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Members of the state Executive Council and the Judiciary are cordially invited to attend the event.

"All are kindly requested to be seated by 9.00a.m prompt before the arrival of His Excellency the Governor."
