Former C'River Assemby Member's Son, 5 Others In Police Net For Armed Robbery, Govt Vehicle Used For Operation

A son of a former member of the Cross River State House of Assembly was among a 6-member robbery gang nabbed by Operation Akpakwu (a special security outfit set up by Governor Ben Ayade) on Sunday night in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

A reliable source from Operation Akpakwu told George Odok, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent in Cross River, that the gang attacked a policeman Sunday night at gun point and luck ran out of them when Operation Akpakwu got the information and immediately chased after them.

"The robbers were chased from State Housing by Chief Obot Street, Calabar Municipality while they were shooting sporadically. During the process of chasing after them by the Operation Akpakwu team, the driver of the armed robbery vehicle lost control and ran into a deep gutter.

"Three of the armed robbers were arrested, the other three escaped, one of them had bullet wounds. The son to a former House of Assembly member was the person who drove the car the robbers used for the operation," the source said.

Interestingly, the car used for the operation is a Cross River State Government registered number plate.

The identity of the ex-lawmaker's son was yet to be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
