Calabar Looting And Vandalism: About 200 Psychiatric Patients Missing - Hospital Mgt


More than one hundred and thirty psychiatric patients are said to be missing after the massive looting and vandalization that took place last week at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Calabar, the Cross River State Capital.


The Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Bassey Edet, disclosed this during an on-the-spot assessment of damages suffered by the hospital.

According to the MD, sixty-one other patients have returned on their own volition, while the whereabout of other patients is still unknown, adding that efforts are being made to look for them and make them to return to treatment.

Dr Edet said many staff of the hospital sustained various degrees of injury during the attack and are being treated.


The hospital was one of the places looted and vandalized by rampaging hoodlums last week, carting away drugs, equipments, including hospital beds.
