Nigeria Centre for Disease Control says it is now ready to contain any kind of epidemic outbreak in the county within 120mins, according to Director, Emergency Response Division, Dr. Evaristus Chijioke.
It siad with the training of over 521 Frontline emergency responders in over 29 states of the federation, NCDC was battle ready to contain any disease outbreak even more effective than the way it has handled the COVID-19 outbreak.
Speaking in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital during the training of some of the Frontline emergency responders, Dr. Chijioke also debunked the rumoured declined cases of Covid 19, maintaining that there is still a high level community transmission going on.
According to him, the training aims at preparing the emergency response frontliners for the fundamentals of emergency response management, emergency response coordination, incident reporting techniques etc in line with global best practices.
"Right now what we want is for states to take ownership of the EOCs by generating their own resources and to managing. That is why we are collaborating with various ministries, CSOs, security agencies and other stakeholders because we want them to take ownership of it.
"When these pillars come together, it will naturally produce effective response towards addressing Covid-19 and other pandemics that may arise in future."
