The governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ben Ayade has revealed that his administration is building a university, known as British-Canadian University in the state.
The university, sited in Obudu, when completed, will be the second university owned by the state, after Cross River University of Technology (CRUTECH).
The governor also disclosed that the Super Highway, when completed, would have toll gates in every 50km.
This was contained in a Facebook post on his verified page, wherein he said he was on project tour with the Chairman and Founder of Coscharis Group, Dr. Cosmas Maduka over the weekend.
According to Governor Ayade, Cross River State is only catalyzing industrialization but does not intend to run the process, which is why the state is looking for "businessmen that have succeeded in their private capacity from start to finish."
He said:
"The only reason Cocharis is here in Cross River State is to ensure that the hospital in Obudu becomes a reality and to also look at other investment opportunities in the state. He is the representative of Siemens and the hospital is going to be equipped by Siemens and he's a major investor. We want to excite him to invest in at least 50km to 100km on the superhighway. We want to encourage him to invest in the British-Canadian University we are building. As a core investor, as a man with credible track record, a man who has a history of consistent success from start to finish, to where he is today, we believe that a handholding with him will bring great success to Cross River State. That is basically the philosophy that underlines our decision to have him go through all of our projects. We also went to his competitor, the supersonic ultramodern rice mill in Ogoja, I am sure he will buy into it.
"For Cross River State, we are only catalyzing industrialization process, but Cross River does not intend to run all of this process, does not intend to run all of these assets and investments. So we are looking for businessmen that have succeeded in their private capacity from start to finish. Nobody will say he doesn't know Dr. Maduka in this country. Cocharis is synonymous with wealth. Right from childhood, at less than 24 he was already a billionaire and to sustain that to this age, it's an indicant that he is stable, he has a character, he has given track record of success with consistent morality attached to his records. And so we look for people with such clean money to join hands and handhold Cross River through the process of her industrialization.
"It's going to be toll, every 50km there is a toll gate. So if you do 50km of the road, you toll it, it's yours, you pay equity and royalty to the state government, because State government provided the land, provided the community clearance services and gave you the right of way. But essentially speaking, each construction and complete equipment in terms of the road furniture will be the responsibility of the investor, so we are talking to him as a core investor."
