#RevolutionNow Protest: Court Acquits Two CrossRiverWatch Journalists

Two journalists working with  CrossRiverWatch, Jonathan Ugbal and Jeremiah Archibong were on Tuesday August 25, 2020 discharged and acquitted for alleged misconduct by a Magistrate Court sitting in Calabar and presided by Chief Magistrate Rita Marshal.

The duo were arraigned on August 7, 2019 on allegations of conspiracy, unlawful assembly and conducts likely to cause breach of public peace.

Magistrate Marshall held that the prosecution had “woefully and helplessly” failed to establish a prima facie case against the defendants to warrant them to enter a defense and subsequently discharged and acquitted the duo.

The journalists were arrested for allegedly taking part in a #RevolutionNow protest convened by the Publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore on August 5, 2019.
