Players and coaches of Pelican Stars Football Club of Calabar, today, August 12, protested 14 months of unpaid salaries by the Cross River State Government.
Pelican Stars FC has produced some of Nigeria's best female footballers, such as Pepertua Nkwocha, Mercy Akide etc. The club has for sometime now, cried out over poor funding of the club and non-payment of players' salaries. The protest which took place at the front gate of Governor's Office, Calabar, saw the players carring placards with various inscriptions such as: "Fourteen Months Unpaid Salaries", "We are the bread winner of our family, Digital Father".
