The National Youth Council Of Nigeria, Cross River State Chapter, in collaboration with the state's Youth  Parliament yesterday, August 12, commemorated the International Youth Day with a carnival.

The International youth day, a custom practiced by youths across the globe was recommended by the World Conference Of Ministers Responsible For Youth(s) in Lisbon (1998), which enjoyed  endorsement from the UN General Assembly.

The World Conference Of Ministers had declared August 12th as the date to opportune youths the chance to celebrate and mainstream young peoples' voices, actions and initiatives, as well as their meaningful, universal and equitable engagements.

In South South Nigeria, Cross River State, under the leadership of Comrade Dan Obo, the Chairman, Cross River State Chapter and Rt. Hon. Amb. Awatt Caleb, the speaker, Cross River State Youth Parliament, the paradigm was aesthetically different.

While anxiously anticipating the renowned day, the Youths of C'River took to the streets of Calabar in a float to say NO TO CULTISM, RAPE AND KIDNAPPING, vices that have of late bedeviled the state's progress and dared to tint her peaceful status quo, albeit ferociously contained by the state government.

At about the early hours of 7 o'clock yesterday, the 11th of August, 2020. The Cross River State Millennium Park was adorned with colourful, beautiful, zestful and vibrant youths from the three senatorial districts of the state, marching through the Calabar metropolis as they trump their disapproval for RAPE, CULTISM AND KIDNAPPING.

This grand style of commemorating the International Youth Day wasn't without the blessings and participation of the state government, who were well represented by the Commissioner for Youths and Skills Acquisition, Hon. Signor Idiege Omang, Commissioner for Industry, Hon. Peter Egba, Speaker of the C'River State House of Assembly, Hon. Jonas Eteng, a Permanent Secretary amongst others. Also in attendance was the supreme head of the Faculties of Law, University Of Calabar and Arthur Jarvis University, a grand patron of both the youth council and youth Parliament, a mentor and father to many youths, Bishop Prof. Michael Okom, who committed the event to the care of God before commencement.

The youth Parliament climaxed the day with a plenary session to move a motion against rape in solidarity of the carnival theme.
