Breaking: FG Stops 2020 WAEC Exams In Unity Schools, Suspends Resumption Of Schools

The Federal Government had suspended the planned resumption of federal schools and has also stopped students from participating in the West African Senior School Certificate Examinations earlier scheduled for August 4 to September 5.

Nigerian Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, stated this to State House Correspondents at the end of a meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by the President Muhammadu Buhari.

The minister also said federal schools would remain closed until it is safe to reopen them.

He also enjoined state governments that have announced school resumption plans to rescind the decision.

Adamu frowned at West African Examinations Council for fixing the exams, saying the body could not determine the resumption date of schools for Nigeria.

He said he would prefer that Nigerian students lose an academic year rather than to expose them to heath dangers amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Recall that WAEC had fixed the 2020 Senior School Examination to hold from August 4, 2020.
