NDAF Odukpani Inauguration
A Niger Delta group, under the aegis of Niger Delta Activists Forum (NDAF) has inaugurated its chapter in Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The event which took place on Monday, June 15 at the council headquarters was witnessed by dignitaries and traditional rulers in the local government.

The group, last year protested the deplorable state of Calabar-Itu Road with a call on the federal government to commence immediate construction work on the toad.

The protest which led to the closure of the road for three days leading to the federal government, through the Minster of Works, Babatunde Fashola to order immediate repair works on the road.

Inaugurating the chapter executives, the state chairman of the forum, Comr. Paul Ajie charged the leaders of the group in the local government to identify areas in the local government where government attention is most needed and call on appropriate authorities for intervention.

He explained that the group has for years engaged on agitations targeted at correcting some issues in the society and holding government accountable to the people.

He regretted that despite the huge natural resources the region is blessed with, it does not replicate on the lives of the people of the region.

His words: "95% of the gross domestic product of Nigeria comes from the region but if you look at the region, what we bring forth does not replicate what we should have as a people.

"The NDAF feel it is worthwhile to begin to ask certain questions. The group does not attack individuals but to get certain things done for the good of our people. Some people whose stock in trade is to but lick the but of the leaders have termed us to be a group who are fighting the government, which is not true". He added.

On the Odukpani-Itu road, he flayed the federal government for attributing the non commencement of repair works on the road to Covid-19, lamenting that work on other roads in the north and southwest of the country are ongoing whereas Odukpani road is abandoned. He called on the federal government to order the contractors to site immediately or face massive protests.

In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated coordinator of the group in Odukpani, Comr. Asuquo Nsungo Nsungo promised to ensure things gets working in Odukpani and the people gets the desired government presence.
