Journalist Petitions C'River Police Commissioner Over Phone Theft By SARS Officer

CP Nkereuwem Akpan
A journalist with PremiumTimes, Edem  Darlington has petitioned the Cross River State Commissioner of Police, CP Nkereuwem Akpan over the invasion of his family house at Bayside, Calabar South by men of the Anti Cultism/kidnapping Unit of the state police command.

According to the journalist who doubles as the Chairman of Association of Cross River Online Journalists (ACROJ), a certain inspector  Ibe Ihezuo who was among the officers that came for the illegal search stole his late father's phone in the guise of a search without a warrant.

He said:
"Inspector Ibe Ihezuo, a notorious police officer with the anti cultism/kidnapping unit at Cultural Centre, Calabar, invaded my family house in the thick of the night in the name of arrest/search over a communal issue and stole my late father's phone.

"When I approached him, he accepted picking the phone and asked if I have someone who will identify the phone. While I returned with the young boy who argued with him that night while trying to pick the phone, he asked that I get my late father to identify the phone.

He added that when he reported the matter to his commander, he said he had returned the phone to zone 6.

Efforts made by Grassroot Reporters to get the reaction of the Cross River State Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), DSP Irene Ugbo proved abortive as calls to her phone rang out.
