The consignments according to the Commissioner for Industry, Hon. Peter Egba, were purchased from India (GMP TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS PRIVATE LTD.), Indian number one manufacturers of cleanrooms systems and processes, pharmaceutical industry, machinery and equipments. The shipment as stated by the commissioner was long due for delivery but was stalled in transit because of the Covid-19 induced interstate travel ban.
Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ben Ayade on Calapharm, Esuong Uwase, after supervising the delivery process said in a brief interview that a total of twenty three (23) containers are enroute the Ayade Industrial Park, where Calapharm is situated. Mr Uwase extensively commended the efforts of His Excellency, Sen. Prof. Sir. Ben Ayade for his vision of globalizing the standards of Calapharm, for which reason, representatives of the WHO, NAFDAC and other authorised agencies have visited the Calabar Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. to ensure the smooth take off of the company. The SSA further asserted that the company will see to the employment of almost five hundred (500) eligible persons, cutting across different fields of both medical and non medical related disciplines.
Also present was the Director of Pharmacy, Pst. Daniel Michael. The Director, who took newsmen on a facility tour said Calapaharm is a pharmaceutical company whose primary focus will be the production of drugs, including tablets, syrups and capsules, creams, ointments, eye drops, ear drops, multivitamins, antihypertensives among others.
There was visible elation in the mood of all who were present including the adhoc staff, one of which described the governor as the best thing that ever happened to Cross River State.
