Committee Only Recommended Suspension Of NYSC Camping, Not Deployment To Places Of Assignment - VP Clarifies

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has denied media report that his committee, Economic Sustainability Committee (ESC) recommended outright suspension of the National Youth Service Corps exercise for two years.

The committee was inaugurated in April this year with the aim of developing sustainable response to the economic downturn arising from falling oil prices and the coronavirus pandemic.

Responding to the report, Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande said on his Twitter handle that the committee recommended suspension of paramilitary camping for youth corpers and not the deployment to places of primary assignment as being reported by some media houses.

He said:

"It's the paramilitary orientation camping that is being considered to be suspended for at least 24 months, NOT deployment to primary assignment i.e the longer part of NYSC programme would NOT be affected in case this idea is okayed.
