Updated: Governor Ayade Swears In Justice Eneji As Acting Chief Judge

The governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ben Ayade, Tuesday swore in Justice Maurice Eneji as acting Chief Judge of the state.

This comes after the state House of Assembly declined to confirm the erstwhile acting Chief Judge, Justice Akon Ikpeme as substantive chief judge following the expiration of her tenure as acting chief judge.

Justice Ikpeme is from the neighbouring Akwa Ibom State but married to Dr. Bassey Ikpeme, an indigene of Odukpani Local Government Area of the state.

Her non confirmation by the House on grounds that she is not from Cross River State has drawn wide condemnation from Cross Riverians.

Justice Eneji who is from Obudu Local Government with the incumbent Gov. Ben Ayade is alleged to be strongly backed by the governor and some members of the House of Assembly especially from the central and northern senatorial district.
