Senator Onor

Despite the ban on foreign rice by the federal government and the closure of Nigeria's land borders, the Senator representing Cross River Central, Senator Sandy Onoh shared Thailand -produced Cap Rice to his constituents.

The Special Assistant to the senator on Media and Publicity, Phylo Modlin Odu took to her Facebook page to announce the senator's magnanimity.

She had posted:

"It is time to rejoice, let us eat and make merry"
Senator Sandy Ojang Onor tells constituents as he distributes Rice and Cash gifts for the Yuletide across the six local government areas of Central Senatorial District"

"He prays for peace and prosperity in the forth coming year and that his efforts in the Senate yields results of positive impact on the people.

Recall that the federal government had, in August this year, placed ban on importation of foreign rice and closed all land borders, citing smuggling and insecurity.
The Nigeria Customs Service had clamped down on smugglers of foreign rice, leading to  seizure of the product and in some cases, prosecution of offenders.

It is not immediately clear when the product was imported into the country. Efforts made to get the reaction of the Ms. Odu proved abortive as message sent to her on Facebook were yet to be replied as of the time of filing this report.
