Agba Jalingo: PDP Intervenes, Prevails On Gov Ayade For Journalist's Release

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has finally intervened in the feud between the governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ben Ayade and the publisher of Cross River Watch, Agba Jalingo.

Mr. Jalingo was arrested and charged on allegations of treasonable felony, terrorism and an attempt to topple the government of Cross River State after criticising the governor for approving and cornering about N500m meant for the Cross River Microfinance Bank.

Several groups had criticised the former ruling party for failing to prevail on Governor Ayade to release the activist.

Responding to a tweet directed to the  PDP Presidential Candidate in the 2019 elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar by Socio-Economic Rights Accountability Project (SERAP), urging him (Atiku) to use his influence to prevail on Governor Ayade to ensure the immediate and unconditional release of Agba Jalingo, the National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Kola Ologbondiyon, said " PDP is very concerned about Agba Jalingo and without prompting, we had shown interest in his matter".

He added "We await the outcome of our interventions on Senator Ben Ayade as soon as the courts resume".
