University Of Calabar Football Team Wins HiFL Super 4


The University of Calabar male football team, UNICAL Malabites has won this year's edition of the Higher Institution Football League (HiFL), defeating the same team they lost to last year at the finals, University of Agriculture, Makurdi Tillers 5:4 on penalties at the Agege Township Stadium, Lagos.

UAM Tillers opened the scoring on the 16th minute through a fine shot by Aden Shater. Efforts by UNICAL Malabites to find an equaliser in the first half was unsuccessful.

UNICAL Malabites came out roaring in the second half, dominating the field of play. Their effort finally paid off on the 62nd minute when Ngaji Mojafu put the ball past the UAM Tillers goalkeeper.

On the 82nd minute, a goal by UNICAL Malabites was disallowed by the referee for an infringement. The match ended one apiece at full-time. Santos Odey took the final penalty kick for UNICAL Malabites after Apeh Emmanuel missed the last kick for UAM Tillers.

This is the first time the team will be lifting the trophy since its inception.

Meanwhile, Unilorin Warriors defeated OAU Giants  4:3 on penalties to win the third place medal.
