POTENTIAL CONTENDERS SERIES PART IV
DR PRINCE JAMES ESUONG (DCP RTD, PhD)
Southern Cross River State is so blessed that our profiling of her sons and daughters who are very capable and qualified to take over from our digital governor Professor Ben Ayade in 2023 if Christ tarries, may take us up to part 200 of the series.
Like Seriake Dickson, current Governor of Bayelsa State, Obinna Ogba, Senator representing Ebonyi Central in the Senate who are all retired Policemen that are making their people proud and serving their states in exalted offices, Dr. Prince Esuong DCP Rtd, is yet another policeman that may be coming to sustain the good works of the previous administrations in Cross River State and build on their legacies to take Cross River State to an enviable height.
A graduate of economics from the famous University of Calabar, Dr. Esuong currently holds a double PhD, one being in Security Strategies. Prince Esuong is an Efik son of the Eburutu stock from Odukpani L.G.A of Cross River State. He rose through the ranks in the Nigerian Police Force to retire as a Deputy Commissioner of Police. A very simple and humble man , but yet very strict and disciplined in the discharge of his duties and relation with all, both young and old.
His straightforwardness can be attested to by all those who know him and that was the reason why in the force, he was entrusted with so many sensitive high profile positions. As an Assistant Commissioner of Police, he was once Compol Force Armament and had also served as Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations Ebonyi State Police Command during the dreaded Ezza/Ezillo War. It was his tactical initiatives that led to the end of that war.
There is one striking thing about Dr. Esuong - HE LOVES CROSS RIVERIANS AND ANYTHING CROSS RIVER STATE WHERE EVER HE WAS POSTED TO. An officer of his calibre would not relate with people of low class, but this was never said of him, as evidence abound by those who know him. He personally sponsored and financed the activities of Cross River State welfare associations wherever he was posted to. In fact, in Ebonyi State , Cross Riverians had their heads very high because Dr. Esuong out of his busy schedules would still attend the association meetings and offered good advices. He responded promptly to calls, complaints from indigenes of Cross River State whether from a police officer or a civilian and was always ready to offer help and advice. His stay in Ebonyi State and other states he worked saw indigenes of Cross River State being envied by people from other places.
He is highly educated and humble to a fault. After retirement from the police force, he openly delcared his membership of PDP, openly supported Prof. Ben Ayade's second tenure, worked tirelessly to ensure his emergence.
As we look forward to 2023 which is the turn of Southern Cross Rriver to take over the mantle of leadership in Cross River State, Dr. Prince James Esuong (DCP RTD) could simply be that man that will help realize the dreams of the founding fathers of Cross River State.
